Scholarship Details

Time Allocation:

  • Residents can elect up to 4 weeks for an international or domestic away rotation over the course of their 3-year training.

  • Residents may complete this over a 4-week continuous rotation, or as two 2-week rotations. 

  • 1-week rotations are discouraged, but may be considered in certain instances.

Funding:

  • Residents are allotted up to $4,500* in reimbursement for reasonable costs associated with away rotations over the course of their 3-year training.

    • *4-week rotation stipend: $4,500

      • May be completed as two 2-week rotations: $2,250 + $2,250

    • *2-week rotation stipend: $3,000

    • Some eligible expenses include: airfare, transportation, lodging, meals, visas, registration fees, licensing fees, SIM cards, vaccinations

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Pre-departure Forms (**must be submitted at least 3 months prior to departure)

  • Expectations upon return

    • 5-10 minute presentation during conference

    • Blog post including at least 3-5 pictures 

    • Google Return survey

    • Submit all receipts to the residency program coordinator (within 4 weeks of return)

    • Send the reimbursement form to the residency program coordinator (within 4 weeks after return)

  • Official Process

    • The Scholarship Application form must be filled out at least 3 months prior to departure.

    • The Review Committee will review the proposal and either approve funding with the JM Kwak Global Health Scholarship Funds, reject the request for funding, or ask for further details and clarification.

    • Once the funding is approved, the proposal and further additional documents must be submitted to NYPQ GME who will additionally review the proposal and either accept, reject, or request further details, clarifications, or modifications. 

    • Once funding is approved by the Review Committee and the rotation is approved, the resident may then proceed with securing the rotation, including purchasing travel, housing, and other reasonable associated costs.

    • Residents are required to pay expenses out of pocket upfront and then will be reimbursed for reasonable associated costs after all receipts are submitted.

    • Residents must submit all receipts for reimbursement no later than 4 weeks after the final date of the rotation. Reimbursement requests submitted after the submission deadline may be declined for reimbursement.

Documents
