This immersive experience, led by faculty in medical education, ultrasound, and global health, provided participants with the opportunity to teach hands-on ultrasound training for an interdisciplinary team of residents and attending physicians at Guangzhou University Hospital. The training created a collaborative environment where participants were able to refine their ultrasound skills in real-world clinical scenarios. In addition, participants organized and delivered a series of international grand rounds at prestigious institutions, including Guangdong Pharmaceutical Medical School, Shenzhen Hospital, and Guangzhou University Hospital. These sessions included lectures on critical care, basic and advanced ultrasonography, and an engaging visual diagnosis game, fostering dynamic and interactive learning. This initiative not only advanced the clinical expertise of local healthcare teams but also facilitated a valuable exchange of knowledge and best practices across cultures, strengthening global healthcare connections.

This multi-department collaboration between New York Presbyterian Queens residents, simulation faculty, and global health faculty led to the creation of an impactful, simulation-based curriculum tailored specifically for Norwegian physicians, medical students, and nurses. Our mission was to strengthen their clinical preparedness by developing immersive simulation scenarios addressing both common and rare cases encountered in the emergency department. This comprehensive curriculum provided Norwegian healthcare providers with the critical skills needed to manage routine emergencies while equipping them to confidently handle uncommon, high-stakes procedures. Ultimately, our aim was to empower these professionals to enhance patient care outcomes by building their confidence and clinical competence through rigorous, practical training

As a proud Ecuadorian, one of my greatest aspirations has always been to use my medical education to give back to the community that shaped and inspired me. In March 2024, I had the privilege of participating in a global health elective in Quito, Ecuador, partnering with Hospital Metropolitano. During this two-week initiative, I developed and led a curriculum focused on essential POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) skills. I had the wonderful opportunity to engage in community outreach, delivering obstetric POCUS training to underserved populations in Quito’s surrounding areas. This experience allowed me to merge global collaboration with education, contributing as an international lecturer while fostering impactful change in resource-limited settings.

This 4 week rotation with Ondas de Latinoamerica combined an ultrasound elective with a Spanish language immersion. Scan shifts consisted of 2-4 learners (EM residents, external rotators from pediatrics and ICU) and sometimes US fellow or fellowship-trained attending. Additionally, there were daily attending-led or resident-driven topic discussion on POCUS in the emergency or critical care setting as well as weekly virtual conference/journal club including participants from multiple countries. By working within 2 large public hospitals in the Historic Center of Lima alongside colleagues from different backgrounds, I appreciated the differences in medical training and healthcare processes in a completely different clinical environment. This elective provided the opportunity to develop bedside teaching skills, delivery of medical knowledge, medical and conversational Spanish language proficiency, and cultural exchange.

Our Senior Residents and Faculty went to Norway and taught Emergency Medicine Residents and Attendings Simulation and Ultrasound, and got to experience flight medicine.
Simulation Cases: Pediatric Drowning, Pediatric Status Epilepticus
US Lectures: Ocular, Gallbladder, Appendix, US guided LP, RUSH Exam
Panel on American Physician Training and how it differs from Norway
Flight: Ride-alongs and prehospital care - on the bus and helicopter. On the helicopter the crew was able to experience the geography of Norway and how they rely on it to bring in critical patients. Helicopters are manned by an anesthesiologist/critical care doctor, a nurse and the pilot. In the field, the team can do REBOAs, controlling massive hemorrhage.

Dr. Nathalie Briones led the Centurion Medical Missions group for a medical outreach trip to Bogotá, Colombia, as a lead physician during her emergency medicine residency. The mission focused on aiding Venezuelan refugees who had fled to Colombia amidst political and economic turmoil. The team provided crucial healthcare services, addressing the severe lack of medical access among the displaced population. Their work included conducting health screenings, diagnosing and treating a range of acute and chronic conditions, distributing essential medications, and delivering preventive health education. By collaborating with local organizations, they tailored care to the specific needs of the refugees, ensuring culturally sensitive and impactful interventions. This mission underscored the importance of global health efforts in alleviating disparities and highlighted the resilience of communities in crisis
